Miley Cyrus: Breakout
Review #1by Kat

Miley Cyrus returns with her first solo (independent of 'Hannah Montana') album. The album is a great collection of pop rock tracks and proves a strong debut for the young musician. The album showcases Miley's strong vocal range and the songs are distinctly her.

The album features two covers; "Girls just wanna have fun" and "These four Walls". "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is enjoyable but somehow lacks the pep of the original song. It grows on your though. "These Four Walls" is a great cover that really shows Miley's vocal talents.

My favorites... 'Fly on the Wall' would probably be my favorite track. It's a great rock track about a girl with a paranoid boyfriend. 'Don't you wish that you could be a fly on the wall, a creepy little, sneakily little fly on the wall'. The single '7 things' is also one of the albums best songs. You can't help but sing and dance along. 'See you again are a great dance number.

As for the ballads, 'Goodbye' and 'The Driveway' are really captivating. 'Bottom of the Ocean' is okay but I'm not too enthusiastic about it. 'Full Circle' and 'Breakout' round out the album; they're not terrible songs but again I'm not too enthusiastic.

'Wake up America' is an irritating track which will be of little interest to fans outside the US.

All in all, 'Breakout' is a great album for a teen audience. It's not the best out there but certainly not the worst.

You'd have to be living under a rock right now to not be aware of the teen sensation that is Miley Cyrus, and with the recent release of her 2nd self titled album, Breakout, she's going to become even more of a household name. I may be slightly biased here, as I've been a fan of Miley for about 3 years, but I don't think you need to be a fan to enjoy the album. If you enjoy lively pop music that makes you want to dance around with your girlfriends, then give this a try! One of my favourite tracks off the album is 'Breakout', a song I think any girl can relate to. It also has that sing-along quality and you won't be able to get the tune out of your head for weeks. With 'Fly on the wall', Miley goes for an edgier sound, and it really works. You'll find yourself going back to listen to it again and again. Another particular highlight for me is 'Bottom of the Ocean'. When I first heard it, it took my breath away because it sounds so beautiful, and the lyrics are so deep and profound. If you liked Miley's last album, you should enjoy this one too. Even if you've never heard her music before, this album is a good place to start. I highly recommend it.
