Tokio Hotel: Scream Reviews
|
I was very excited to pick up a copy of this album, being the first English-language album Tokio Hotel has released. I'm happy to say that the band did not disappoint their die-hard fans, mainly because if you've heard their albums Zimmer 483 or Schrei, then you've heard all of the songs before. What the band did with this album was take the most popular or loved songs from their German albums and translate then record them in English. While this helps the non-German fans understand the lyrics, it has the downside of being almost boring. If you want to get a full grasp of the band's songwriting abilities, then I would suggest directly translating the German versions into English to escape the traps of forced rhymes and cliches as found in this album due to the band's limited English. For first-time listeners, or others wanting a second opinion, here's a review:
The Good: The best tracks on this album in my opinion were Final Day; Monsoon; Live Every Second; Ready, Set, Go; and Scream. These tracks were excellent rythym-wise and didn't make me cringe as I heard the lyrics. The music video for the singles of this CD were also enjoyable and well-made. The inclusion of the German-language version of "Monsoon" (Durch Den Monsun) was a nice move on the creators' part.
The Bad: There were a few tracks that just didn't interest me. Forgotten Children and Don't Jump were based off of social issues and would be very good if not for the words that ruined the song with predictable lyrics and improper grammar (you just can't feel it no more). It's very obvious that the lyricists don't speak English. Love is Dead and Sacred just sounded too much like each other to be unique in any way.
The Ugly: Overall, the CD seems to repeat itself several times with songs that have melodies and lyrics too similar. If you're a fan that doesn't care about the music, just how tall Bill's hair is, then you will love this album. Buy it. If not, download Live Every Second and Scream, stick them on your iPod, and forget that Tokio Hotel ever made another album.
Review #2 - by Alley
If you haven't heard of them yet you will! Tokio Hotel is starting to take over MTV and The N. With two music videos currently on rotation. The band is nothing short of amazing. The video for 'Redy Set Go' is nominated for two catagiries in the upcoming VMAs for 'Best Pop Video' and 'Best New Artist'.
Lead vocalist Bill Kaulitz has an amazing voice that you would know that it changed after his surgery. Guitarist Tom Kaulitz is the best guitarist I have ever heard. Bassist Georg Listing has the same amazing talents as Tom. Drummer Gustav Schafer is certainty tied for best drummer with Nick Jonas!
The CD starts with 'Scream' a high energy song that will get easily stuck in your head. Their two singles 'Ready Set Go!' and 'Monsoon' like the band are nothing short of amazing! 'Love Is Dead' is a unique kind of break up song. 'Don't Jump is a very up beat anti suiside song.
'Live Every Second' is a song about the world ending with some amazing guitar work at the beging. 'On The Edge', 'Sacred', By Your Side','Forgotten Children', and '1000 Oceans' are unlike anything that you've heard befor or will ever hear again. 'Break Away' and 'Raise Your Hands Together' are more rocker than the rest. 'Final Day' a little repetitive.'Durch Den Monsun' was the band first single, and is the German version of 'Monsoon'.'Monsoon Live' is better than the studio recording.
