You may be wondering, why, if I don’t like historical books, would I read a book about history. Well, I really didn’t have a choice, The Book Thief was a required book by my school. I began reading thinking it was just going to be another boring book required by school, well, I was wrong. After reading it I was surprised by how much I liked it.
The Book Thief takes place on Himmel Street in Molching, Germany during the late 1930s. This story is told from the perspective of someone who you would never be able to guess, and in order to find out, you have to read the book.
Set during the Holocaust, a little girl named Liesel Meminger is sent to live with a foster family named the Hubermanns. Liesel meets many new people and discovers something that she has a passion for, books and reading. Liesel’s passion for books leads her to a series of stealing. She steals all different kinds of books that she can read. One day the Hubermanns hide a Jew in their house and Liesel starts to see the world as a different place.
The Book Thief is an adventure as well and an idea of how the Holocaust was in a different view from the average. Find out what its like being in the Holocaust and all the things going on around you. From the narrator to the concept of this story, this books grabs your interest. Once you pick up this book, you won’t be able to put it down.
