Am I the only person who finds the title 'Girls in Pants' really terrible? Sure, 'The third summer of the Sisterhood' may have sounded a little repetitive, but it would have worked for me. However, dispite the terrible title, I have to say that 'Girls in Pants' is the best 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' book yet!
For the first two books in the series I had quite a hard time getting drawn into the story. By the last half of the book I couldn't put them down, but at the beginning I was always a little bored. 'Girls in Pants' doesn't have that problem, I was instantly enthralled.
In 'Girls in Pants' the girls are enjoying their final summer before they each go off to different colleges:
Bridget is going away to soccer camp and while there she runs into an old flame from two summes ago, throwing her world into a state of confusion.
Lena is all set to study at art in college, but when here parents refuse to pay for college she must find the courage to fight for her dream.
Tibby is felling held back from entering a relationship with Brian and when her little sister Katherine nearly dies she once again finds herself confronting how she reacts to and cares for the people around her.
Carmen is still dealing with her mothers recent marriage, but when her Mom drops the big one Carmer finds herself trying to deal with a world that's about to change completely.
The story is beautifully written and I really feel Ann Brashares is coming into her own as a writer, the illustrations in this book just totally take you there with the characters, you feel their pain, their confusion and completely relate to what they're going through.
It will make you laugh and it will make you cry and 'Girls in Pants' is definitely worth the read!
