Rose is the plump, sensible and responsible older sister of the two and an accomplished attorney in a recognised law firm in Philadelphia. She wishes for a day when Mr. Right would take off those glasses of hers and tell her that she is beautiful.
Maggie is drop-dead gorgeous with a size zero figure and uses it to flirt her way through life a various dead-end jobs. She wishes for a day where she would be able to achieve stardom.
When Maggie is evicted from her apartment, both sisters are forced to into cohabitation. The peaceful life Rose had is now gone with Maggie’s incessant raids, thefts and insults. But when Rose finds Maggie sleeping with her boyfriend, Maggie has crossed the line and is kicked out.
Maggie then flees to Princeton and masquerades as a student. She learns that she has a brain and a will to learn and developed a passion for poetry.
Meanwhile, Rose takes a break from reality and learns to loosen up and find life in herself. And she might just find love again.
I really liked what the characters go through and it was at sometime rather emotional. I was emotionally touched by its ending especially. But I found the book a little draggy in the middle.
Jennifer Weiner did really well in this book. It has humour, love, but a tinge of unexpected heartbreak bound to stir up a reaction from her readers.
