Kiss and Blog is the story of Winter; a high school sophomore who along with her long time best friend Sloane is pursuing the all elusive High School quest of popularity. However, to Winter’s horror when Sloane makes it through the golden gates to the A-list table she turns her back on Winter, not even acknowledging her friend of eight years when they pass in the halls.
Bitter regarding Sloane’s desertion, Winter secretly starts an online blog ‘The Gospel of Eleanor Rigby’ detailing Sloane’s (anonymous title: Princess Pink) embarrassing secrets. To Winter’s surprise the blog becomes an almost instant hit. Now everyone’s buzzing about Eleanor and the mysterious Princess Pink and their possible true identities. Soon Winter finds herself wondering if she's gone too far and if her retaliation really is worth the consequences.
Kiss and Blog is a great insight into the superficial and catty nature of popularity. It's tragic to see how Sloane completely turns her back on a lifetime friend simply to replace her with superficial, popular new friends who would stab her in the back at the earliest opportunity. Through Winter's eyes you quickly come to see it truly isn't worth it. As Dr. Suess once said 'Be yourself: the people who matter won't care and those who do care don't matter'.
Kiss and Blog features those components that make a teen novel worth reading: a romance, villains, the complications of growing up and the family your heroine can't live with or without.
Kiss and Blog is definitely worth checking out!
