'Kiss the Dust' tells the story of a family of Kurds and their experiences as refugees from Iraq in the 80's. The stories central character is 14 year old Tara, a wealthy, urban, intelligent schoolgirl with big dreams.

This is a beautifully written book. I found that once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I have a new respect and understanding for te Kurdish people and what they've been through. This book certainly teaches you to appreciate how much you have in your life, when you read the suffering others go through. The books central character is easy to relate to, and you feel for her the whole way through

Not a minimalistic childrens book, this is surely substantial and interesting enough to hold the attention of teens.

I strongly recommend reading this book. You'll venture on an adventure with the characters that you'll never forget.
