Oh. My. Gods. By Tera Lynn Childs
Review by: Amanda
Phoebe is a normal girl happy to live her normal life. She has a pair of best friends. She’s a distance runner for her school’s cross country team. She’s even a lock for a scholarship to her top choice college. All she has to do is get through her senior year of high school. But then, her mom drops a bomb shell on her: her mother is now engaged to be married and they are moving to Greece, effective immediately. As it turns out, this is the least shocking of the news. Phoebe ends up enrolled as a student at a very exclusive school, so exclusive that you normally have to be related to one of the Greek gods to attend.
For me, this book was kind of like the teenage girl’s version of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. Instead of death defying adventures and heroic quests, we get a glimpse into how being related to a Greek god effects your social status. There are mean girls, cute boys, clearly defined cliques, and the new girl stuck in the middle of everything. It’s a really quick, really fun read, and Childs manages to keep you interested the entire time. Some plot points are obvious in their coming, but she makes getting to them enjoyable. If you’re looking for a twist on your average teen chick lit, this is definitely it.
