In her shoes

I was surprised to discover that 'Rising Star' is as much about the band Long Story Short (if not more so) as it is about Nikki. Though the story starts out centered around her we soon reach a point where the story solely follows the guys for a number of chapters.
My favorite line in the book would have to be: "The brothers shared the same boyish good looks with their hazel eyes and dirty blond hair. They both had an infectious, pristine smile and charm to wield with it. They were the kind of boys that daughters loved and drove fathers to take antacid tablets." which is a description of Long Story Short's lead singer Casey and his brother Toby.
The story is an entertaining (and considering it's author's background) and accurate depiction of band life and I can't say I find musicians more appealing after reading it. The story is a great insight into a world we don't normally see and for that is entertaining. However, I did find the characters rather difficult to fully relate to and empathize. It could be that at 19 I'm above the books target age.
Overall 'Rising Star' is rather entertaining and interesting for lovers of music.
