Echo’s negotiating life at fifteen, she has great friends, school and boys to deal with but on top of all that is her biggest challenging; dealing with the recent tragic murder of her old sister Zoe. Echo had thought the case was all set and solved, that she knew everything leading up to her sister’s death but when Zoe’s old boyfriend turns up with Zoe’s diary, she learns about her sister’s secret life and embarks on a journey that not only changes her perceptions of her sister but her very life.
Saving Zoe is that powerful novel that has the capability of jumping into your mind right off the pages then setting up camp and never leaving. You’ll be thinking about it long after you finish the last sentence and hopefully people will be thinking about it for decades to come. The subject is timely and relevant in our modern age and has a warning message for young women in this society.
The characters are raw and real, with unique voices and writing flair and the story has the magical appeal of a good mystery; you can’t quite pick the heroes or villains and the twists and turns make the ride thrilling.
Saving Zoe really is in a category of it’s own but to me it is definitely Alyson Noel’s best novel to-date.
Highly recommended.
