StarSitter is Andrea Dana's first novel. Andrea has worked as a teacher to Young Hollywood's elite for over five years and the novel is inspired by a true story. Scary.
The novel centers around twenty-seven-year old Grace Daniels. She has a comfortable job as an Interior decorator until one day she does a one day favorite for her Aunt. This small favour leads to three weeks serving as a Guardian for Maddie Malone - Hollywood's next 'IT' girl.
At first it's all good fun that includes an all expense paid trip to LA, staying in luxury hotels and getting to hobnob with the rich and famous but Maddy redefines the word 'superbrat'. Most of Grace's time is taken up shielding Maddy from her 'fans', caring for her dog, stroking her oversized ego and catering to her every whim. But underneath the layers of celebrity and money - is Maddy really just a kid struggling for acceptance in a cruel adult world?
StarSitter is an entertaining novel that provides insight into an aspect of the entertainment world we really don't see. You can't help but read and wonder if your favorite stars ever act this horrible when the cameras aren't on them. The characters are entertaining and though you really want to slap her ninety percent of the time; Maddy still suceeds in stealing most every scene.
Though it does feature a supporting teen character StarSitter is written for a more adult audience. Due to the use of the 'F Word' on almost every other page and some other adult situations I would recommend this book for Portrait's youngest readers. But for our adult and mature teen readers; check it out!
