This book is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The first couple chapters are a bit slow, but as the plot picks up, you can’t put the book down. The plot begins with the telling of George’s childhood, the time spent with his mother and his discovery of his animal magic. This chapters lead up to the time where he finds he is betrothed to the Princess Beatrice who is known for having an uncommonly extraordinary relationship with her hound. The two meet and get to know each other, but sparks don’t exactly fly both ways. George starts to believe he is falling in love. The story continues, telling us secrets of Beatrice’s childhood through George’s dreams, and includes a mystery about the court doctor that ultimately brings the story to a climax and resolve.
Orson Scott Card calls it: “Powerful, surprising, moving and deep. The Princess and the Hound is a classic.” The story has many surprises and the plot is unique and individual. I was never able to guess what would happen next. This is a book that you will surly love, and won’t be able to put down.
