AquaMarine
Review by: Laura O

Emma Roberts (Unfabulous), JoJo (RV) and Sara Paxton (Sleepover, Darcy's Wild Life) join forces in a deep sea tale of 2 best friends who discover a mermaid in the local pool.

Claire (Roberts) and Hailey (JoJo) are the best of friends. Bit things are about to change since Hailey must move with her mom to Australia in only 5 days. After praying for a miracle, Hailey and Claire are in for a special little treat. After a powerful storm, Hailey and Claire discover a washed up mermaid named Aquamarine in the local pool. With the help of Aqua, the girls might have a chance at sticking together. If they help Aqua find love in 3 days, Aqua will grant them one wish. Can Claire and Hailey help Aqua find love in Raymond, the hottie lifeguard? Or will they sink?

I watched this movie to give Emma a second chance after her little acts on Unfabulous. She proves a little better in this movie, but still comes off as some attention-seeking, weepy little girl. However, JoJo is magnifacent! She gives a powerful performance in dramatic scenes that make you feel for her character's situation. She also pulls off her quirky lines with a talent that is irresistable. Sara Paxton's performance as Aquamarine is cute. Not as powerful as JoJo, but not nearly as annoying as Emma. It's not bad, but not Oscar-worthy.

The storyline is cute. About a mermaid trying to find love in a world she doesn't know. It also brings out the highlights of friendship between teenage girls, boys and shopping. However, I feel the writing is weak. Maybe it is my pet peeve of cheesy romantic comedies that keeps me from liking these.
