Though you could truthfully say Becoming Jane's plot line and romantic chemistry is very much borrowed from the Author's stories, that still doesn't take away from the film's charm. Jane is a delightful, intelligent, strong-minded and stroppy heroine. Her Mr. Lefroy is roguishly charming and you can't help rooting for them even though the history books tell you their story cannot end happily.
Though there was some controversy regarding the casting, I think Anne Hathaway was absolutely perfect for the role of Jane. The American born actress masters the English accent and plays the character with all the class and spunk you'd expect from the literary figure.
The era, costumes and buildings are gorgeous. I personally love to go to a film where you can escape this world and travel forward or back in time. Becoming Jane certainly provides that while reminding you that maybe the 21st century and it's changed views on marriage and a women's place in the work place, really isn't so bad after all.
Becoming Jane is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're an Austen fan.
