Blood Diamond
Review by: Elizabeth

Taking place in Sierra Leone, the 1990 civil war going on between the government and the R.U.F. Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a Mende fisherman, and Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a South African mercenary, are two men that find out they need each other in the end. While Danny is put in jail for getting caught smuggling diamonds, he finds out that Solomon discovers a rare pink diamond. Solomon was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond mining fields. He came upon the diamond and hid the diamond in the mining fields. The two men seek the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly); an American journalist whose next article is dependant on Danny and Solomon.

The three embark on a suspenseful mission through rebel territory. The journey may save Solomon’s family and give Danny a dream of a lifetime.

With war, heart wrenching, and joy filled scenes this movie does not disappoint. Whether you’re into an action packed movie or a tearjerker, Blood Diamond delivers a new outlook of diamonds.

DiCaprio’s character portrayed a man too involved with smuggling. This movie may boost his career with his outstanding performance. Djimon Hounsou shows the side of a father longing for his family. The way he portrayed Solomon is well shown with his determination to find this son.

Overall, Blood Diamond is by far one of the best movies so far this year. It is definitely a must see film.
