A Cinderella Story is Hilary Duff's first starring role in a feature film outside of her Lizzie Mcguire persona. She sparkles onscreen and portrays the likeable and strong Sam well. She stretches her acting skills a little, managing a few emotional scenes. Sure, it's not oscar winning stuff but she's growing, and for this film the performance was perfect.
Chad plays Austin Ames, the popular guy sick of his shellow friends and being someone he's not. His father has his life all planned out for him with little regard for Austin's dreams. He's got everything going for him but still manages to feel sorry for himself and not push through courageously to get what he wants. Not your typical perfect fairytale prince, but isn't a dose of reality what every fairytale needs?
The thing that bugged me most about this film was Jennifer Coolidge's character. She's just a little too outrageous and annoying and takes the film too close to being a children or tween film.
Not quite Lizzie Mcguire 'clean' nor American Pie 'dirty', cinderella story is an in between niche for teen movies. I believe kids could enjoy it as well as teens
The story is an empowering story of achieving your dreams, not accepting being a victim and being yourself; not what others might think you should be. As Austin says regarding Sam it's refreshing to find a girl who cares about more then what she's wearing.
A Cinderella Story is an enjoyable teen film for all young ages. A feel good flick you'll certainly enjoy.

Im a HUGE fan of Hilary's but am the 1st one to admit that shes not the most talented actress/singer around , but in this movie you cant help but love her even more! her acting is much better than it was on Lizzie and her onscreen presence makes up for anything thats not good in the movie. The only thing that really lets the movie down is the fact that Hils charecter is meant to be geeky, plain, unpopular yet she still seems to be the best dressed girl in the whole school, perfect hair , perfect skin and always perfectly glossed lips, that part definatley loses you a bit , but all in all , a cute movie! 3/5
A Cinderella Story
Review by Gayle:
Fairytales aren’t just finding handsome princes, they’re about fulfilling your dreams and about standing by what you believe in.
Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) grew up with a life of disappointment and misery, and pines for a moment of fantasy and an escape from reality. Reality comes in the form of being at the beck and call of Fiona, her stepmother, and giving up her life as a girl living a life; to live under the wreath of her stepmother (Jennifer Coolidgeand) and stepsisters Brianna and Gabriella (Madeline Zima and Andrea Avery) after her father’s death.
Years later, Sam thinks that she has found her shot at fantasy for the first time. She was finally going to meet her Prince Charming, who comes in the form of Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), the cutest boy in her school. They both email each other daily, and Austin longs to meet Sam. But Sam knows her limits, and is hesitant on meeting him. She is afraid that Austin would hate her after realising who she is; a nobody.
How would Sam let Austin know that she is the girl that he has always been waiting for? And what will Austin react upon knowing that Sam after all, is the Cinderella he has been waiting for all these while?
I felt that the plot was far too simplistic, and it was very predictable. Watching Disney’s Cinderella was probably more pleasing than this. The step by step process could be predicted and thus, I was definitely very disappointed with this film. But with such a HOT cast and so much glitz and glamour, it totally works out for me.
