Corpse Bride
Review by: Whitney

On the night before his wedding, shy young Victor Van Dordt wanders off into the forest to practice his wedding vows. However, little does he know he's not alone--inadvertedly, he says his vows in front of a dead young woman, who immediately rises from the grade with the assumption that he's just married her. She is Emily, the Corpse Bride, and Victor's life is about to get very complicated...

One would expect a Tim Burton film to be original, entertaining, visually amazing, and musically adept. Corpse Bride is all those things, more or less. The plot may be rather cliche, but it's cute none the less, and the animation is great. There are a few well-done musical numbers here and there, and the voice acting--led by Johnny Depp as Victor--is wonderful. But really, the most impressive aspect of the film is its excellent production, editing, and animation efforts.

At just over an hour long, it's fairly short, but it's just the right amount of time to efficiently tell the story. Creative and enjoyable, Corpse Bride is Burton at his best. It is, at heart, a bittersweet fairytale about the power--and pain--of true love.
