The film centers around Dennis Quaid's character - Jack Hall - a climatologist that works for the government and ultimately works out whats going on before everyone else. Jake Gyllenhaal plays his 17-year-old son - Sam Hall - who is in New York on a Scholastic competition with two friends. As New York is engulfed in Tidal Waves then starts to freeze Jack sets out to save his son.
The film has a few familiar faces in Sam's group of friends. There's Arjay Smith most well known for his role as Allen in Nickelodean's 'The Journey of Allen Strange'. And Mary-Kate and Ashley fans will recognize Austin Nichols moving up in films from 'Holiday in the Sun'.
The characters are ok though a little more developement with various relationships couldn't have hurt. There are some great portrayals of courage and risking ones life for a friend that are really touching. The special effects in the film are great! Though a couple of computer generated wolves didn't come off as too believable to me.
The story could be thought of as farfetched, but to younger audiences could be rather terrifying. The M (PG-13) rating is suitable.
If you're up for a breathtaking film with an A-list cast and amazing special effects then this is the one for you. Leave your worries behind and step into a world where everything has changed and the fight for survival is all that matters. Hopefully, like me you'll find the film sadly over far too soon.

Roland Emmerich, director of Independence Day, seeks to destroy the planet once again with his newest movie, The Day After Tomorrow.
The Day after Tomorrow follows the story of Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), a meteorologist who finds that Global Warming is triggering intense weather throughout the northern hemisphere. Tidal waves in New York, tornados in LA, and basketball sized hail in Tokyo. Within a few days, the northern hemisphere will be engaged in the second ice age! In the midst of all this, Jack realizes that his son, Sam Hall (Jake Gyllenhall) is away in New York City at a Scholastic Competition, has no idea what is about to happen and sets out to save him. Can Jack save his son and himself from the grueling effects of mother nature?
Yes, a lot of people do die in this movie, which makes it somewhat depressing. They also use a lot of big words that we may not know. But the storyline is fantastic along with the real looking special affects. So if you love weather, and looking for a wildfire ride, then make a trip to rent The Day After Tomorrow.

When I rented this movie, All I wanted to see was Dennis Quaid, (he's about my favorite actor) but I like a whole lot more then just him. Special effects, plotline, you name it. Although they did use alot of big words, lol, it was worth it!
