Echelon Conspiracy
Review by: Kat

A young engineer receives a strange cell phone. Anonymous text messages lead him on a path of riches but his success soon catches the eye of the FBI and a casino mogul as things begin to take a sinister twist. Okay, let’s start with the obvious: this is not an original plotline. If you’re thinking it sounds a heck of a lot like ‘Eagle Eye’, you’re completely right. In fact it’s an action film theme we’ve seen a couple of times in recent years. Go into the film anticipating that or prepare to be disappointed. That being said, the film does have a few unique qualities on offer.

I found it especially thought provoking that it was human greed, not blackmail or sheer desperation, that was used to lure people into committing crimes or things the otherwise wouldn’t do. You can have everything you ever wanted but is the price worth paying?

The film jets all over the world with interesting locations and the occasional international character. I must say though that I was disappointed with the lead character played by Shane West. There just seemed to be elements missing and contradicting one another with the way he was written. A little more attention to people would have helped the film along.

Ultimately Echelon Conspiracy felt more like a straight to DVD action film then a big screen adventure but it still has a few redeeming qualities.
