Garden State
Review by: Kat

Andrew Largeman is a depressed, out of work actor eking out his existence in Los Angeles. But a fateful call from his father has Andrew heading back to his home state of New Jersey. As he's about to confront his the personal demons in his life, Andrew just may find that life is worth living. But only when he can deal with the conflicts that arise from he and those around him.

I've never been a regular devotee of 'Scrubs', though it is a great show. I guess the whole sitcom thing doesn't have you expecting much of a directorial debut. The most appealing thing about this film to me was Natalie Portman. I have to say I really understimated Zach Braff.

The film is beautiful! Heartwrenching and poignant at moments then wacky and far out there the next.

It's wonderful to watch the story unfold. You know nothing about the characters at the beginning then slowly the veils are drawn to reveal so much more under the surface.

The characters are real, screwed up and many are in dead end lives yet they still remain appealing. Natalie's characters affliction was especially relevant to me as my cousin suffered the same.

Fantastic performance from all. Zach and Natalie especially.

The film has an R-16 rating in my country due to frequent use of the 'F' word, one rather graphic sex scene (not involving any of the main characters) and drug use. Don't let the rating put you of.
