Review #2 - By Salpi
I happened to see the movie “Get Smart” before even it came out on June 20, 2008. I saw the movie at the premiere in Mann’s Village Theatre in Westwood Village in Cal ifornia. It was so awesome. My dad tells me that he has seen the original episodes. I haven’t seen the original episodes. “Get Smart” turned out to be one of the funniest and most hilarious movies I have ever seen. This movie has a lot of action and is pure comedy.
The actors include: Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart; Anne Hathaway as Agent 99; Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Agent 23; Alan Arkin as the Chief; Terence Stamp as Siegfried; and Ken Davitian as Shtarker. Also starring, Masi Oka from “Hero’s.” The film is directed by Peter Segal. The story of the movie is like Agent Maxwell Smart is on a most dangerous and important mission for the latest plot for world domination by evil crime known as KAOS. As Maxwell Smart gets closer to unraveling KAOS’ master plan, he discovers that key KAOS operative Siegfried and his sidekick Shtarker are scheming to cash in with their network of terror. With no field experience and little time, Maxwell Smart armed with nothing but a few spy-technology gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm, must defeat KAOS if he is to save the day.
Some scenes and parts in the “Get Smart” movie stood out to me. Usually, in some movies takes place only in one state or city. In this movie I liked that it was done in three states like in Downtown, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and in Moscow, Russia. It was funny when Dwayne Johnson stapled on the guy and he bumped into a wall. Also it was interesting that at first Dwayne Johnson was a good guy, then he turned out to be a bad guy. In like almost every movie like “The Scorpion King” he has played the good guy. The shoe phone was pretty cool. It was pretty cool that Steve Carrell walked on water. The laser part was pretty funny that showed the mouse went in Maxwell’s (Steve Carrell’s) suit and he crossed over. I liked the airplane scene in which Steve Carrell went in the restroom and he was trying to untie himself with the dart and he ended up poking himself a lot. Then Anne Hathaway and Steve Carrell jumped with the parachute. That was a funny scene as well like when Anne Hathaway kissed the huge guy. The red car was cool as well. In the beginning the bubble scene was pretty funny like when the boss wasn’t ready, and Steve Carrell hit the boss with the hose. Ryan Seacrest’s voice was used in this movie. That seemed interesting to me. They called him “America’s Sweetheart.” It was interesting that this movie went from present to past, and present again of some scenes. Like a flash forward. The obese lady dancing with Steve Carrell scene was pretty funny as well. At the end the piano where they found the bomb and then Steve Carrell flashed his behind. That was so funny. Ken Davitian’s scene was funny as well. I got to say that watching the “Princess Diaries” movies and seeing Anne Hathaway in a movie like “Get Smart” it was totally a different side of her that I have seen. Overall, I really liked and enjoyed watching this movie.
