Unless you've been living in an alternate universe recently, you'll know that the film, High School Musical was Disney Channel's most succesful movie with 7.7 million viewers tuning in on it's premiere in the US. Now, the East High wildcats are back with a highly anticipated sequel that is sure to be as big or even bigger than the first movie. But the question that's on everybodys lips is: Is it any good?
The Plot
The movie mostly takes place at Ryan and Sharpays' parents' country club. Sharpay comes up with a scheming plan to steal Troy from Gabriella once and for all. She orders the manager of the country club to hire Troy for the summer but he mistakenly hires the whole East High student body much to Sharpay's dismay. However, she refuses to give up her plan as she makes Troy realise that the Evans family can hand him his whole future on a plate. Will he choose his friends or his future?
The Actors
In the second installment of Disney Channel's High School Musical, Ashley Tisdale defintely takes Sharpay up to a whole new level of mean. She portays a character that will do anything to get what she wants and will stop at nothing to get it. Gabriella and Troy are officially dating at the start of the movie and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens display the chemistry they have very well and the scene where Gabriella breaks up with Troy while singing 'Gotta Go My Own Way' is suprisingly moving. Ryan kicks it up a notch in this movie proving he's not just Sharpay's little puppy dog that follows her wherever she goes and begins to grow into his own person. Definitely a good performance on Lucas Grabeel's part. Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman take a bit of a step back in this movie but Taylor and Chad's romance continues to blossom.
What's Good About It?
Although the plot is a teensy bit predictable, the movie is actually very good and isn't just a remake of the first one, which some people thought it would be. It's filled with even more catchy, preppy, toe tapping tunes that will be stuck in your head for days on end whether you like them or not. The actors all kick it up a notch with their performance and they are visibly starting to grow up. All the reasons why people loved High School Musical are right here in the second film. And to all you High School Musical haters out there, don't you think the cast are much better role models to kids than some of the celebrities out there today even if they're a little cheesy?
What's Bad About It?
The worst part about this movie is that some of the lip synching is absolutely terrible! Especially on Zac Efron's solo, Bet On It. Some of the expressions he makes are just downright scary! And sometimes the cast look like they've just been tangoed or something!
The Verdict
Overall, this movie is pure cheesiness but you can't help but love it! Everyone who liked the first one will love High School Musical 2 and I'm sure it will be an even bigger hit. I would definitely recommend giving it a watch!
