The Last Samurai
|
In Japan, Civil War veteran and American military advisor Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) now trains the Emperor's troops to use modern weapons. He commands the troops to defeat the remaining samurai in Japan. But after being taken prisoner in battle, Nathan comes to the samurai village, where he embraces and comes to love samurai culture. But after being sent back to where he came from, the Japanese military goes in search of the samurai again...ready to completely take out the samurai in a war that will determine the way of the samurai.
This is one of the most captivating and gripping movies you will ever see. Tom Cruise and Ken Watnabe (Katsumoto) deliver some of the most gripping performances of their careers. The score is magnifacent and the cinematography of Japan is most spectacular. This is a story that will leave you in tears. The silence of the movie is just as gripping as the loud rages of fury. Tom Cruise proves he can deliver with or without the normal yet gripping yelling he normally gives.
The ending is kind of abrubt. Kind of 'War of the Worlds' only links things together better. It's clean and Hollywood but almost betrays the rest of the film.
This is a must see movie and I don't know why I haven't heard more about it!
