Marie Antoinette Reviews

Marie Antoinette was known for being the naïve Austrian princess, who is thrown into the scandal-ridden world of the French aristocracy when she is betrothed to King Louis XVI. She was just fourteen years old when she must deal with her fears and become France’s iconic queen.
Marie Antoinette, played by Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman, Bring It On), lived the life of luxury as portrayed in the movie. Her extravagant clothes, shoes, jewelry, and her big hair are well represented in the movie. Although she was uncomfortable with having everyone do everything for her, she got used to it. She then grew in love with being a queen.
The movie shows the side of Marie, not what everyone thinks of her. Dunst played her very well by showing how she really was, a scared but then a toxic symbol. Dunst became Antoinette in the sense that you can tell how outrageous her life was portrayed.
To me, the ending could have been a little different. The movie was well directed by Sophia Coppola. I truly loved seeing all the beautiful 18th century clothing and the outrageous hair of Marie Antoinette.

Marie Antoinette is a beautiful film that accurately captures a time and lifestyle so lavish and preposterous it's hard for us to imagine. The film has received a costume design nomination at the Oscars and was actually allowed to film on location at Versailles where the actual events took place Everything about the film is visually stunning and accurate that you don't doubt it for a second.
Kirsten Dunst's performance as Marie Antoinette is brilliant. She portrays the character at varying points in the story with innocence, hope, excitement, heartbreak, indifference and laughter, making the character one you both love and hate.
I was surprised that the film ended where it did but also happy that it doesn't show the actual event of Marie's death, leaving off on a less dismal ending.
Overall, Marie Antoinette is a historical masterpiece that is definitely worth checking out. It does have the occasional slow moment but this helps communicate the time which was so much slower and at times dull then our modern world.
