New York Minute Review

New York Minute is Mary-Kate and Ashley's second feature film (their first being 1995's 'It Takes Two'). New York Minute tells the tale of two very different twins who really can't stand each other. Ashley plays Jane the uptight over achiever who is taking part in a speech competition to win a scolership to Oxford University. Mary-Kate plays Roxy a punk rock rebel who plans to get backstage at a Simple Plan concert to slip her demo tape to their manager. New York City is each girls destination for the day. It sounds simple enough but when a couple of cute guys, a bald dog, a overzealous truant officer, and a bad guy who thinks he's Asian get involved, things get complicated.

After years of budget straight-to-video films shot in the space of a couple of weeks it's refreshing to finally see a Mary-Kate and Ashley film with at least a little quality. New York Minute had a $40 million dollar budget and was shot over a period of about 3 months. Ally Mcbeal creator and 'What a girl wants' director Dennie Gordon directs the film and does a reasonable job. Mary-Kate and Ashley's acting improves a bit. They even pull off an emotional scene reasonably well. Euegene Levy puts in a great performance as a crazy Truant Officer. And Jared Padelecki and Riley Smith do good jobs as the respective romantic interests.

The thing that ruined this film for me would have to be the character of Bennie Bang. He is part of a group of criminals who pirate music and movies. The character is childish and annoying and takes the quality of the film down quite a bit. However, he isn't in every scene and it's still an enjoyable ride.

The film certainly deserved to do better then it did in the box office. It's as good as any other tween to teen film that did well last year (Lizzie Mcguire Movie, Agent Cody Banks, What a Girl Wants). If you're in the USA check it out on DVD next month and for the rest of the world (Where it's about to be released) go check it out in cinemas and enjoy a fun story starring two young women we've grown up with.

I thought it was going to be just like their direct-to-video movies, but it was actually very entertaining and hilarious! I laughed the whole way through, and it gave me a uplifting feeling when it was over. I'm going to see it again!

I loved it. I don't see why critics are getting so edgy about it. It's such a "feel-good" movie, and I thought it was funny....I laughed quite a few times. My mom also enjoyed it very much and & wondered why it isn't making more money than it is....it's awesome! I thought their acting skills improved also!

It was really cute, and it was better than I expected. I think more people should give it a chance and they'd be surprised too. Not only are MK and Ash adorable but they act better in this movie than in any of their direct-to-video movies. It was really good
