The Phantom of the Opera Reviews

Andrew Lloyd Webber's sumptuous musical comes to the screen in this film adaptation. Deformed since birth, a bitter man known only as the Phantom lives in the sewers underneath the Paris Opera House. He falls in love with the obscure chorus singer Christine, and privately tutors her while terrorizing the rest of the opera house and demanding Christine be given lead roles. Things get worse when Christine meets back up with her childhood acquaintence Raoul and the two fall in love. As the Phantoms genius turns to madness how will Christine ever escape him?

Emmy Rossum perfectly catches the innocence of the young Christine, and what a fantastic voice! Gerard Butler is fantastic as the Phantom, capturing the role perfectly and an unusually young looking Patrick Wilson is perfect as the adoring Raoul.

The music is breathtaking! You don't have to be an opera fan to appreciate it! My favorite song would definitely have to be the title track 'Phantom of the Opera' which has a dramatic rock feel.

The Phantom of the Opera is a fantastic, romantic and action packed story with striking characters and a stunning setting. I can't recommend it enough! Undoubtedly one of my favorite movies ever.

The Phantom of the Opera is a magnificent movie about an innocent opera girl, Christine (Emmy Rossum), who is all of a sudden put into the lead role of the opera house's latest production. Her performance not only excites the audience and the owners of the opera house, but also the phantom of the opera (Gerard Butler), who lives below the stage of the opera. The phantom finds he is drawn to the lovely Christine. But Christine has already fallen for the dashing Raoul (the absolutely gorgeous Patrick Wilson).

The Phantom of the Opera is an extremely musical film with little regular dialect (talking). Instead, they perform their feelings through singing and music. It's quite original. This is a great movie and if are looking for a great musical, or are just looking for some really hot guys to watch, then now would be a good time to add The Phantom of the Opera to your collection.

Following the footsteps of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 hit musical, the 2004 version of The Phantom of the Opera hopes to do the same and take the world by storm. It certainly swept me of my feet.

I watched The Phantom of the Opera after some encouragement of a choir-singing friend, who knew all the words to the songs in it, watched it 5 or 6 times and loved Emmy Rossum’s acting.

The Phantom of the Opera is the story of a small-time chorus girl Christine Daae who is under tutelage of a mysterious person, whom she regards as ‘the Angel of Music’ sent by her father. He is really The Phantom, whom, after leading a bitter life and has never known kindness, flees to live under the opera house. The Phantom has fallen deeply in love with Christine and will stop at nothing to give her the best, even if it means killing or harming people to make her the lead in musicals. Unfortunately, Christine is already in love with her childhood sweetheart Raoul. The fateful love triangle unfurls as Christine must eventually choose- between Raoul and The Phantom to save a life.

The sets of the movie are visually breathtaking, the costumes splendid, and the direction brilliant. Most notable is of course the music of this movie cum musical. Unforgettable numbers include title track ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ , the fun and lively ‘Masquerade’, and the haunting yet magical ‘Music of the Night’.

A star is born in Emmy Rossum, playing Christine. Her acting is amazing, coupled with a sensationally wonderful voice. This is indeed, rare of someone so young. She also displays excellent chemistry with Gerad Butler (The Phantom) and Patrick Wilson (Raoul).

The male leads are not to be left out either. Gerad Butler is extremely convincing in his role as the insanely genius Phantom, while Patrick Wilson fits well in his role as Raoul, Christine’s love interest. Their voices are all fantastic for their roles, and they bring off each of the songs they sing breathtakingly well.

This movie is a must-see! I believe even none opera lovers will love it, because the story, settings and acting are spectacular and memorable. Amazing!
