Step up 2: The Streets
Review by Kat
Step up 2: The Streets is the sequel to last years surprise hit Step Up. The film centers around a new group of characters while remaining in the same neighborhood and school. Andie grew up watching ‘The Streets’, the intense dance competition where local hip hop dancers could showcase their talents. After her mother’s death left her virtually alone in the world she joined the winning dance crew but when her antics cause her guardian to considering sending her to Texas to live with her Aunt a friend steps in. Next thing Andie knows she’s enrolled at the Maryland School of Arts where she’s struggling to fit in. The deal is if she can’t turn her life around at MSA it’s hello Texas.
When Andie’s crew learn of her new school and new priorities she’s kicked out and finds herself forming her own crew of talented misfits at MSA. Their dream? Winning the Streets whether people think they belong their or not.
While not as good as it’s predecessor Step up 2 is a lot of fun. There are some great dance sequences; in fact the films main problem is perhaps putting the dance before the actual plot. Most aspects of the story seem underdeveloped and when the film reaches it’s conclusion you’re left feeling you missed out on something.
The film has a great hip hop soundtrack and both strong and weak performances from various members of the cast.
It’s cheesy and predictable but it’s fun.
