Transformers: Robots in Disguise!

Okay, so I never actually watched the Transformers cartoon series. I did, however, think the toys were pretty obvious and names like Artimus Prime and Megatron where still firmly planted in my memory. At the screening I attended, females made up maybe 5% of the film going population. Not to mention that at twenty I was one of the older people attending the film. Girls: don’t be put off. You can enjoy this film too. And for the guys, well you’re going to love it.

Transformers is about a war that breaks out between the Decepticon’s and Autobots over a ‘cube’ that has the power to create life. The Cube has been hidden on earth for a few hundred years, along with the Decepticon’s leader who crash landed on the planet and has been ‘unconscious’ all this time. Now the rest of the Decepticon’s are attacking earth and searching for the cube and their leader.

The good guys: The Autobots who believe that every species has the right to life, arrive to protect the human race; namely Sam Witwicky. Sam, a teenage boy who just received his first car – a classic Camero that is really a ‘robot in disguise’ ("I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot... who knew?") hold’s the key to ending the war and it’s going to be one breathtaking ride!

The film marks Shia Labeouf’s first role in a major blockbuster picture and the Even Steven’s star really leaves his Disney Channel roots far behind. He’s funny and enthralling and you can’t help but root for his character.

The special effects are stunning. What more can I say? As Director Michael Bay has said; the film couldn’t have been made a couple of years ago. They actually had to wait for technology to catch up and achieve what they needed.

Granted, talking robots is always going to be a little cheesy but the Autobot characters are appealing all the same.

This is definitely a summer blockbuster you should check out.
