Tsotsi
Review by Kat:

Set in South Africa, Tsotsi takes place over 6 days in the life of the title character - a young gang leader in Johannesburg. When a carjacking goes bad Tsotsi flees the scene only to later discover a baby boy in the backseat. As he takes care of the child he comes to terms with his own tragic childhood and the man he's become.

Tsotsi is an inspiring story of redemption set in a harsh world. The film shows, in all it's brutal detail, the poverty in South Africa and the struggle so many young people face to find a place in this world.

The Cinemotography is stunning and the performances - especially that of the lead Presley Chweneyagae - are breathtaking.

The film won Best Foreign Language Film of the Year at the Academy Awards and is currently nominated in the same category at the Golden Globes.

Powerful, moving, heartbreaking and unforgettable. Tsotsi is a film to see.
