Sonny with a Chance Reviews
Review by: Amanda

A small town girl is handpicked from obscurity to star in her favorite sketch comedy show. It sounds like a dream come true, right? While the premise is interesting, unfortunately Sonny With A Chance is more like a nightmare. The show has been described as "30 Rock for kids," but I personally do not see it.

I am not a Demi Lovato hater, as many people accused of disliking the show are labled. I enjoy her music, and i found her adorable in the first season of the American version of As the Bell Rings. She just does not seem to click with this particular kind of show.

One bright spot does occur in the duo of Sonny (Lovato) and Tawni (Tiffany Thornton). Scenes with just the two of them are hilarious; they feed off of one another very well. In fact, their "check it out girls" are probably the best sketch characters on the show. Although the popular airhead is a bit played out in the universe of Disney shows, Thornton does an amazing job with what she is given. The rest of the cast, and the shows plotlines, can be hit or miss. The acting is incredibly over the top, even for a show aimed at tweens.

Part of the reason the appeal of the series is lost on me is because Disney is simply reusing one of its best money making concepts: small town girl makes it big, and then tries to stay true to herself while doing what she loves. Sounds a little like Hannah Montana to me, and frankly Hannah does it better.

So, if you want to watch something funny that examines the effect of fame on a teenage girl, doing its best to teach a few life lessons on the way, do yourself a favor and "check out" Hannah Montana instead. Sonny does not deserve the chance the show has been given.
